Karl Strauss Parrot in a Palm Tree
This 8.5% alcohol Baltic Porter from Karl Strauss Brewing Co. has been described as "love in a glass". That was by me! Chocolate is prominent in the nose & first sip, with a slight effervescence. As the brew warms the dried raisin & plum notes come to the fore from its Tawny Port barrel aging. The dry finish is slightly bitter and leaves you with a lovely cocoa aftertaste. I enjoyed this beer so much that I was inspired to recreate the milkshake made by Karl Strauss executive chef Gunther Emathinger, as seen here. I paired it with a slice of my wife's homemade Peanut Butter Bundt Cake. Although the shake had mixed reviews, I found it to be a decadent treat that did justice to the beer. Whether you drink it by itself or make your own creamy concoction, check out this limited release for yourself. You'll be singing its praises in no time!

Thanks, Kevin!
My boss, whose favorite beer is Pabst Blue Ribbon and who isn't particularly well-versed in beer, bought me a bottle as a gift today. It was completely unexpected, so when I was presented with the tall brown paper bag I was happy to receive whatever he had gotten me. Imagine my surprise when I pulled out an AleSmith Wee Heavy Scotch Style Ale! That went right into my cellar for a little aging. For his limited beer knowledge he made a very good choice. Nicely done Kevin, nicely done!
