Alpine Exponential Hoppiness

Yesterday's release of the infamous Alpine Beer Co. hop monster, Exponential Hoppiness, has been news all week, but I decided to make mention of the event only after I had secured a growler fill of my own. Call me selfish if you will, but I missed the previous release of this bodacious brew and wasn't about to miss it again! The beer's purchase restrictions have also made news, and are reiterated on a whiteboard posted in the brewery. There is a limit of 2 new growlers, 4 growler fills, and 6 22 ounce bottles per person, per day. I like the final line on the board which states that any disagreements with those limitations will not end well. This batch is awesome! It is definitely worth the trek up to Alpine and wading through the construction on Alpine Blvd. to get a hold of some of this hop nectar. I would hurry, though, as this beer never lasts long. Happy trails!

San Diego Beer Week needs you!

I know you like beer, and I know you are looking forward to San Diego Beer Week 2011. The question is, are you an artist? Are you a cartoonist? Do you just like to doodle? If any of these apply, you may have a shot at winning the t-shirt design contest that the San Diego Brewers Guild is holding for the upcoming event. I am by no means an artist, but may throw my hat into the ring as well. Go here for all the details. Let me know if you win, and I'll do the same!

Grilling

I am in my happy place when grilling out on my patio. The hot grill with its contents sizzling, the view of the San Diego skyline, and a cold beer in my hand. I certainly can't have a nice barleywine or Belgian quadruple grillside, those choices would just be too heavy. I save those for the meal or for sipping later in the evening. I typically have a nice IPA or bock beer to keep me company while flipping the burgers or tending to the carne asada. Whatever the meat and whatever the brew, grilling gives me an inner peace that is difficult to achieve anywhere else. Grab some meat, grab a brew, and get grilling!

El Cajon Brewing Co.

I first posted on the imminent arrival of El Cajon Brewing Co. to downtown El Cajon back in May of 2010. Last I heard they were planning on opening this month, but we'll see. I stopped by yesterday and took a few photos of their progress. Tanks have been visible for quite some time, but the signage is finally going up. The progress is encouraging, and I look forward to sampling their beer very soon!
